Accessibility statement
How neb works with keyboards, screen readers and other assistive technology.
Our goal
Shoppers using a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom or high contrast should be able to ask neb a question and read the answer, the same as anyone else. We build the chat widget, this website and the merchant dashboard to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA.
The chat widget on stores
The widget is the part shoppers use, so it is the part we test most. On every change to its code, an automated test opens the widget in a real browser and checks it with axe-core against the WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules, both closed and open, in three set-ups: a dark brand color, a light (yellow) brand color, and right-to-left Hebrew. A change that fails the check is not merged.
What the widget does for accessibility:
- The chat opens as a labelled dialog. Focus moves to the question box, and Escape closes the chat.
- New answers are announced to screen readers.
- Every control can be reached and used with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring.
- It picks dark or light text for the store's brand color so the text stays readable.
- It respects the "reduce motion" setting of the shopper's device.
- It follows the shopper's language and right-to-left scripts.
This website and the dashboard
This website has a "Skip to content" link, labelled menus, headings in order, and respects "reduce motion". In the merchant dashboard, text colors were checked against the WCAG AA contrast ratio (4.5:1). The website and the dashboard are not part of the automated widget test.
Known limits
- Automated checks find many problems, not all of them. We also check the widget by hand with a keyboard, but not yet with every screen reader.
- Brand colors other than the ones in the test rely on the same contrast logic rather than a separate test.
- The on-site assistant on this website (bottom right) is a separate service shown in a frame. It is not covered by the widget test above.
- A merchant's own store pages are outside neb. If a store page is hard to use, please tell the store as well.
This statement is not a legal certification of conformance.
Tell us about a problem
If something in neb is hard to use with your setup, email hello@neb-app.com with the subject "Accessibility". Tell us the page or the store, what you tried to do, and the browser or assistive technology you use. We will reply by email, and fix what is ours to fix.
