How to write a size guide that answers before shoppers ask

Size charts as text, measuring instructions, fit notes per product: how to write a size guide shoppers (and search engines) can read.

Make the chart text, not a picture

A size chart saved as an image can't be read by screen readers, translated by the browser, or found by search engines and assistants. Put it in an HTML table on the page. Keep the image too if you like.

What to include

  • Body measurements per size (chest, waist, hips, foot length), in the units your shoppers use; both cm and inches if you sell abroad.
  • How to measure, in two or three short steps.
  • Between sizes: which way to go for each product.
  • Fit notes on each product page: “runs small”, “relaxed fit”, “true to size”. This is the line shoppers look for most.
  • Garment measurements for products where the cut matters (length, sleeve).

Put it on the product page

Link the size guide right next to the size selector, and repeat the fit note there. A shopper choosing a size shouldn't have to leave the page.

Learn from exchanges

If one product gets exchanged for a bigger size again and again, its fit note is wrong or missing. Fix the note before you fix anything else.
